Bio

Vanessa Bezic is a bilingual TV/Web journalist and tech enthusiast.

With a background in writing, videography, editing and reporting, she’s as comfortable composing an in-depth print story as she is producing a video package and reporting live in either Spanish or English–or tackling social media platforms.

Vanessa previously worked as a reporter, photographer and editor (one-man band reporter) at Univision Los Angeles KMEX-TV and at the Kansas NBC affiliate KSNT-TV; as a field producer and assistant producer at KEYT–TV; and as a field producer and anchor assistant at WGN-TV.

She is a Southern California native and a proud Lakers fan. Vanessa left Torrance Beach to brave the “Windy City” and study broadcast journalism at Northwestern University, where she was the only one in her class to graduate from both the Medill School of Journalism (BSJ) and from the School of Communication (with a second major in communication studies).

At NU she played libero for the Wildcats Division I Women’s Volleyball team. After her first year, Vanessa traded her kneepads for a chance to do sideline reporting on the Big Ten teams and to serve as a play-by-play volleyball announcer for Medill’s College-Emmy winning show, SportsNight.

Vanessa later left her sports reporting gig to anchor and report live for the Northwestern News Network with a team of talented news junkies, winning the 2008 INBA Student Illinois News Broadcasters Association Award for Best Newscast and a College Emmy for Best Newscast 2nd Place the same year.

Apart from television, she worked in radio for WNUR 89.3 FM in Evanston, producing and anchoring the noon and the primetime newscast.

Her accomplishments at Medill won her the 2007 Ephraim Family Scholarship from National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Chicago/Midwest Chapter.

Since then, Vanessa’s plunged herself into the ever-changing world of social media and online production/management.

She worked for MySpace’s sister company, Slingshot Labs, where she helped produce the start-up Dailyfill.com and was responsible for managing the site’s CMS, gathering online content and editing news stories. Currently Vanessa’s joined the AccuWeather team and is covering weather for TV, radio, web and mobile platforms worldwide.
